On November 19, 2024, a public debate analyzing the outcome of the U.S. presidential elections took place at Anglo-American University (AAU) in Prague. Organized by Strategeo Institute in collaboration with AAU, the event followed a pre-election discussion and attracted leading experts in politics and economics. Two thematic panels offered diverse, sometimes conflicting perspectives, fostering a space for lively discourse.
First Panel:
Moderated by Veselin Vačkov, Director of Strategeo Institute, the first panel explored the post-election situation in the United States. Discussions centered on the implications for American politics and society, as well as potential impacts on the European political landscape. Panel participants included:
- Kateřina Weissová, Director of the Center for Transatlantic Relations at CEVRO,
- Jan Zahradil, former Member of the European Parliament,
- Mila Garrett, student at Anglo-American University,
- Tomáš Klvaňa, Visiting Professor at New York University in Prague.
Second Panel:
The second panel focused on economic issues, particularly transatlantic trade relations and the anticipated "tariff war." Moderated by Jan Macháček, President of Strategeo Institute, the panel featured:
- Jiří Schwarz, President of Anglo-American University,
- Petr Pudil, entrepreneur and art patron,
- Jan Švejnar, Czech-American professor of economics and founder of CERGE-EI,
- Ondřej Jonáš, investment banker.
